Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program

“With no running water, a family in Kenya has no choice but to drink from contaminated rivers and streams. Much of their water is filled with pollutants, bacteria, parasites, and viruses. With every drink, children and adults face the risk of illnesses, such as severe diarrhea, which can result in death.”

Pur, the company that makes water filters, has started a new campaign. They are sponsoring the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program. Their goal is to provide 50 million liters of clean drinking water to children in Kenya. You can help! Pur is donating a portion of the proceeds of sales from its water filters, up to $400,000, to the nonprofit organization PSI.

According to the website Pur, a division of Proctor and Gamble, “effectively eliminates parasites, bacterial and viral diseases and other contaminants found in water, and has been proven to dramatically reduce diarrheal illness in children.” Water filters will be donated to families who have no access to a safe source of drinking water. I am an Ethiopian 35 years old male individual. I am suffering from chronic illness said to be spastic colon/ IBS. This is serious, distressing, devastating, disabling, isolating & morally killing illness for me. I began to have this physically affecting and mentally killing disease when I was an excellent student in 1990. I visited many Doctors and tried many traditional medicines spending all I have & earn searching for cure. But the Doctors did not detect and effectively attended me. So I spent most my age wandering here and there to be free from this shameful illness. I have done what ever possible for me because there is nothing better thing than getting rid of the illness as life with it is difficult and meaningless rather alive dead (standing death). It highly affected my social, economic, spiritual and working life. I cannot sleep in the same room with people even people live near to my room complain much, cannot drink water & other drinks, cannot sit together with people in office, cannot eat most foods, even cannot sit near to the people because of uncontrolled internally originating odor which cannot be solved by any hygienic care, I suffer more when people put their hands on their nose/mouth and so on. Lived alone for many years with fear to be married that woman would not tolerate my problem to live with me. I remember many people said to me that my disease condition never allows me live with people. In 2008 I tried my marriage but she went refusing to live with me after 6 months as she could not tolerate my problem. So how can I continue to live? When I was studying my B.SC programme, my classmate said to me that he would commit self suicide if he were me but I am not allowed spiritually to do although life is dark & meaningless for me. I made internet search about the disease and found the availability of some drugs and need of continuous follow up in America. But I do not have money to do so.
