World facing severe water shortage

Last Wednesday, February 14th, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned that if present rates continue the number of people without an adequate source of water will rise from 1.2 billion to 2 billion people in less than 20 years. And within that time two-thirds of the world will not have enough water. Water use has grown at twice the rate of the population and this demand, coupled with world-wide drought, has created an impending escalation in the water crisis. This year the theme for World Water Day on March 22 is “Coping With Water Scarcity” to bring awareness to the need for international cooperation to address the problem now.
